Quotes from "Parent Controlled Feeding" by Anne Marie Ezzo
Parent Controlled Feeding
....After the second week, if the baby is feeding every two hours, definitely start stretching the time between feedings. Do not feed more often, this will hurt more than help.
....Your goal should be that by the time your child is 6-8 weeks old, feedings should be every 3-4 hours (preferably 4) during the day and sleeping through the night from approximately 10 PM - 6 AM....
A sample time table for feeding during the first four weeks looks something like this:
6:00AM Wake and feed (obviously diaper change etc.) The baby will probably be ready to go back to sleep around 7:00.
10:00 AM Feed - You may use this time to give the baby its bath10:30 -11:00 Back to bed
2:00PM Feeding time.
6:00PM Feeding time. (You may find this will turn into your baby's wake time, so try to fit that into your routine.)
10:00PM Feeding time.
Please note that the actual time spent nursing should take no more than 20 to 30 minutes maximum....
...Towards the end of week three, if you find that your baby is not going a good 3-4 hours on breast milk, then you may want to consider nursing and then offering a complimentary [sic] feeding of one to two ounces.
...One final note--you are not a bad parent if you let your baby cry. They can handle their crying usually much better than you, so let them go.
